Uncertainty Potlucks
Joining together over food.
Suspending and deconstructing certainty.
Performing uncertainty.
No artistic or musical skills needed, just bring a dish of food to share.
Next Uncertainty Potluck:
7-9pm, December 8th, Art Hive, 835 Spring Hill Road, Staunton, VA.
In our American cultures, we often speak with conviction and certainty – whether in political, personal, or religious spheres. But what if there is a multiplicity of answers to any single question, or diverse experiences that lead to the greater good? Throughout the Uncertainty Potlucks series, performance artist, songwriter/composer, and former theology student Rachel Austin will offer readings and viewings as prompts for creative responses to the deconstruction of [religious and political] certainties.
The pressure to know is taken off as we come together and, for a mere hour or two, suspend our belief and disbelief. Over the course of several monthly gatherings, we will work towards a public performance offering.
Please bring a potluck dish to share. Silverware and plates will be available, but please bring your own if you would like to conserve resources. Email Rachel with further questions.
You may wish to bring writing or other materials for artistic responses.
The Potlucks project is made possible by an Artistic Assistance Grant from Alternate ROOTS and the partnership of Stone Soup Books.
